R.A. “Bob” Hoover, considered by his peers the “pilot’s pilot”, has spent most of his life in planes as a highly decorated fighter pilot, record breaking test pilot or master of aerobatics. After service in World War II, Bob Hoover began his post-World War II career as a military test pilot at Wright Field. Bob joined General Motors in 1948, where he performance tested Allison jet engines and propellers.
Bob’s list of military and civilian accolades is as impressive as his flight hours. The military awarded Bob the Distinguished Flying Cross, Soldiers Medal, Air Medal and Purple Heart. Bob was inducted into National Aviation Hall of Fame, and the Smithsonian lists him as third among all time contributors to aviation. In June 2003, Aviation Week named R.A. Hoover one of the Top 100 Stars of Aerospace and winner of the Intrepid Aviators category.
